If hunting along a fence row, tie a fence area down. Since deer take paths of the least resistance, bucks will jump over the tied down part. This will enable you to ambush him at the location you want.

A portable tree stand works great as a dog platform when hunting in high water or flooded timber. Many weigh less than 10 pounds. Unless the stand has a mesh platform you should modify it by wiring a small piece of indoor/outdoor carpet to the platform to keep the dog’s feet from slipping between the slats.

Always wear some type of safety belt when you are going to hunt from any type of elevated position. No exceptions! Accidents happen every year so it is imperative to keep your safety as a number one priority.

If a big buck spots you at your stand site, relocate that stand to a new spot at your earliest opportunity. Mature deer often will avoid spots where they’ve had a previous bad experience.

Look for a lightweight bow. This will make it easier to carry it if you walk long distances through the woods.

Bear bait can consist of anything edible. However, bears prefer beef tallow (fat). Many bear hunters avoid the mess of putrid bait by using waste grease from restaurants and pouring it over dog food.

Ask permission before hunting on someone else's land. If you don't and are caught, future hunting in that area is almost non existent.
